Join the Common Team!

Common’s Community Land Find enables any community to buy and manage local landscapes. It aligns crowdfunding with institutional investment, vesting long term ownership directly in new community-led organisations. It does so through its pioneering Community Land Fund, co-designed (and invested) with the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation. This wholly-owned and asset-locked CIC acquires land on behalf of communities, then supports them to fundraise to acquire from Common, while developing with them land management and nature-based enterprise strategies for long-term conservation and economic and social resilience.

The overall goals, set out in our theory of change, are to empower people to contribute to nature recovery at scale; to help bring 30% of UK land under protected status by 2030 (to which target the UK government has a binding international commitment); to reverse the decline of UK wildlife habitats and biodiversity; and strengthen the resilience of rural communities and economies.

Could you be Common’s Community Land Fund Manager?

Common has developed a Community Land Fund (CLF) – mirroring an existing facility operated by Esmee Fairbairn Foundation – to enable community-led organisations to secure land for nature recovery objectives. With funding commitments in place to pilot this model we are seeking a detail-focussed individual who is happy working in a fast paced, and multi-faceted start-up environment.  Ideally this will be someone with existing experience in a fund management or financial operations role with a good understanding of working with a broad range of funders (particularly larger social investment organisations in the UK), and communities to help deliver the first projects through this innovative new product. The CLF has emerged as a key tool missing from the marketplace to enable community groups to better compete in secure sites for nature recovery when they come onto the open market.

Directly reporting to the CEO your role will encompass all areas of developing this key market intervention, as well as some of the day to day operational tasks of running Common.
